Daniel Ward is an accomplished musician, composer and educator, who has become one of the countries top clinicians and performers on the ‘ukulele circuit’. He is known for his command of Latin styles and teaches right hand techniques, adapting his style and knowledge from the classical and flamenco guitar. He has been a featured performer and workshop instructor at festivals across the country, including: Reno Ukulele festival, West Coast Ukulele retreat, Wine Country Ukulele Festival, San Diego Ukulele Festival, Port Townsend Ukulele festival, Albuquerque Ukulele festival and many More. With his wife, Heidi Swedberg, he has performed as an artist in residence at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix AZ, and performed at Children’s Music Festivals around the country, including concerts in Los Angeles, New York City, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and the Austin City Limits Festival. Heidi and Daniel we also featured performers at Music China in Shanghai in 2012.
As a guitarist, Daniel has toured the world playing flamenco guitar with Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra (1997-2000) as well as performing with the flamenco dance ensembles of Maria Benitez, Dance Espana, and Yjastros (1994-present), and 20 years playing rock-n-roll electric guitar for Celebrity Enterprises corporate entertainment (1994-present).
As a commissioned classical composer, Daniel has penned two string quartets for the Del Sol ensemble of San Francisco, and a four-hands piano piece. He has scored music for film, television and video.
In the field of recording he has won awards (Parent’s Choice NAPPA, NM Recording Arts, Fids and Kamalies) on both albums he collaborated with his wife and is a sought after producer and arranger. His own CD “After the Storm” is an award winning virtuosic performance of original compositions masterfully played on electric and flamenco guitar.

The Ballad of Downtown Jake
The Ballad of Downtown Jake centers around the charming but helplessly drug addicted Jake Delmonico as he traverses the streets of New York City in a desperate search for eternal fame. In his struggle to become the next greatest saxophone player in history, the lives of Delmonico’s friends and enemies tangle and become the fire that destroy and rebirths love, lust, and hope in this skillfully crafted tale of the human experience.
Inspired by the poetry collection High Notes, written by PVCC Creative Writing Program founder, Lois Roma-Deeley, The Ballad of Downtown Jake mixes rhythmic prose with the spirited jazz of the 1950s, composed by PVCC Fine and Performing Arts Division chair, Christopher Scinto.

I like a lot of different music. Though I play mostly jazz and avant-garde music, I grew up very much as part of the alternative scene of the 90s: Nirvana came of age when I was in middle-school, Live 105 was the modern rock station in the SF Bay Area that played everything from R.E.M. to Tori Amos to NIN to The Cure to Violet Femmes - it was awesome!!! So, I like to think my musical taste is pretty diverse, and pretty good. But maybe not! HA! Anyway, here are 5 albums that I am into right now.

A San Francisco Bay Area native, Keith currently resides in Phoenix, AZ - where he is Coordinator of Music Humanities and Performance at Paradise Valley Community College. Prior to this appointment, he was Assistant Professor/Coordinator of Jazz Studies at California State University - Stanislaus. Additionally, he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at Arizona State University, University of the Pacific, and Boston University (Online). Keith holds a DMA in Music Education (Jazz Studies) from Arizona State University. An in-demand woodwind doubler and improviser, he performs regularly with Running From Bears, Static Announcements and The Scorpion Decides.
Musicians Wanted: The PVCC Community Band | MUP161 #36984
This course is a modern American approach to the American Wind Band tradition.
Our mantra is: Living Music by Living Composers.
This ensemble, while rooted in the past traditions of the Great American Band, is a look forward to its place in the 21st century. The band is going to perform music by living composers sometimes before the ink is even dry! There will also be a mixed media component, ranging from student-driven video content to live dance and visual art being performed with the ensemble.
Our faculty has a wide open approach to guiding our students in whatever direction their imaginations come up with.
PVCC Community Band performances will be an event, an experience. Selections for MUP161 come from some of the most famous living composers of Movie and Wind Band music, such as Michael Giacchino (Lost, Star Trek, Up), Rossano Galante (3:10 to Yuma, Live Free or Die Hard), Robert W. Smith, Eric Whitacre, John Mackey and Dan Bukvich.

The multimedia ensemble is a new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) ensemble at PVCC. Our first project for the semester will be to augment a video game experience by creating live music and media to a live video game. Should you sign up for this course, you have the opportunity to determine the direction of future projects as the remaining projects will be co-constructed by the ensemble members. All creative individuals, with any level of experience or abilities, are invited to collaborate in this new experience offered at PVCC. If you can create music, write a program, design media, express yourself through dance, frag a n00b, build your own device, or think outside the box, this ensemble is for you.
